Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

It remains an exciting time to be a Royal!

Did you know?

  • AP enrollment at MCHS has increased by 300% and early college by 400% since 2012
  • Every student in grades 6-12 has access to a Chromebook computer
  • Hundreds of Chromebook computers have been added to our elementary schools (1:2 ratio)
  • The agriculture program has doubled in size during the last four years and we now serve middle school students
  • Career pathways for students have tripled since 2012 with new and exciting choices in ROTC, Culinary, Music, Art, Biomedical, Engineering, Agriculture, Aerospace and many more!
  • 74% of all districts have a higher tax rate than Mason County (129 out of 173 districts have a higher rate)
  • The recent TELL teacher survey revealed Mason County teachers feel supported by the district and community
  • Mason County leadership and teachers are frequently called upon to present on project-based learning, project lead the way, 1:1 implementation, and deeper learning opportunities.

This year, we will be rolling out the ROYAL DIPLOMA, which will better define what it means to be promoted to a new school and ultimately graduate from Mason County High School. There will be traditional academic measures as well as “soft skills” such as problem solving, work ethic, collaboration, etc. Our local and national employers have been clear that these essential work skills are “must have” for students.

To that end, deeper learning opportunities will be provided where students demonstrate their learning in new and meaningful ways. Presentations to the community, individual student data binders (used to monitor progress toward goals), and other projects will be utilized to demonstrate work, career, and life readiness. Follow us on twitter @MasonCoSchools and look for the #RoyalReady for updates!

I am blessed to begin year five as part of the Mason County community. Together with staff, students, families, and the community, we have accomplished much! Still there are great things ahead, which will greatly benefit our students.

Have a great year!

Sincerely,

Rick L. Ross
